Coffee Shop "Googie"
Mid-Century
Modern Main
This section
of cosmicool is devoted to the super-cool modern coffee shop archtecture of
the 1950s and 1960s. This type of architecture is also known as "Googie."
I first saw the name Googie when I picked up the book, "Googie fifties
coffee shop architecture" by Alan Hess. This is a fantastic book on the
subject and can be bought on Amazon.com
here. Googie isn't necessarily confined to just coffee shops. Bowling alleys,
car washes, motels etc. of the era were often done in the "Googie"
style as well.
